Tacha Akide of BBNaija has cause a buzz online with her review of Nigerian celebrities’ appearances at the 2025 Met Gala. In her video she shared on her instagram, Tacha mocked Tems, and Ayra Starr for their “underwhelming” outfit choices.
The formal BBNaija mate claimed her criticizing them came from a place of interest and love, listening that she loves the artists but felt they didn’t stand for the country properly at a prestigious event like the Met. She articulate out Tems, requesting answers regarding the concept behind her look and suggesting that some fashion designers would have better than what Tems did, dhe said designers like Veekee James or Swanky Jerry would have done greater.
Tacha also criticized Ayra Starr, saying she didn’t meet expectations and that her outfit looked like it was last-minute or uninformed. She compared Ayra Starr’s look to Mary Amaka, implying it was unimpressive.
Even Burna Boy, known for his red carpet style, wasn’t spared. Tacha said Burna Boy usually kills the red carpet but missed the mark this time. She even compared the celebrities’ looks unfavorably to Priscilla’s wedding, suggesting that Nigerians are known for their music and fashion sense, but these doesn’t live up to expectations.
The debate sparked by Tacha’s comments highlights the intense scrutiny celebrities face at high-profile events like the Met Gala, where fashion choices are under a microscope. It also raises important questions about the collaboration between celebrities and fashion designers, and the expectations surrounding Nigerian celebrities’ appearances on the global stage.
